MS&T 14 - Materials Science of Additive Manufacturing
October 12 - 16, 2014
Additive Manufacturing (AM) or“3D printing” is a rapidly expanding, multi-disciplinary field that uses various processes and materials to produce structures through layer-by-layer additive techniques, enabling new component designs and tailored structures. AM is moving beyond rapid prototyping parts and into direct fabrication of end-use products like gas turbine engine components and medical implants. The goal of this symposium is to promote informational exchange among academia, government labs, and industry on the materials aspects of AM: processing techniques, materials characterization, certification, modeling and simulation encompassing all AM materials (metals and alloys, polymers, ceramics, and biomaterials).
